Owen the Badass

This is supposed to be Owen Pallet from the band Final Fantasy. It doesn't quite look like him, but you should check him out anyway... he is a pretty big badass.
This is also the first time I really enjoyed using a brush pen! I'll have to try using it some more, it was fun.

Diner People

Just coloring some sketches of people at a diner!

Marjane

Another badass, Marjane Satrapi. She wrote "Persepolis"!

Art the Badass

Today I felt like drawing people who are awesome. Maybe I'll keep doing this and call it my Series of Badasses.
This first badass is Art Spiegelman.
I was at the library working on my comic, when I ended up passing the graphic novel section. I noticed "Maus" on the shelf and picked it up on a whim.
Wow.
I stayed at the library reading it until I literally got kicked out at the end of the night. To be honest, I still can't stop thinking about the book.

Alejandro

A parent at the daycare center asked me to do a charcoal portrait of her son as a gift for his dad. I'm not in love with this drawing (for some reason it's kind of nerve-wracking drawing for someone else sometimes...) but I did have fun playing with charcoal again!

Not So Secret Project

Here's the new comic I've been working on! It's called "The Adventures of Alex and Ibid". It's about a boy who follows a little manticore into an alternate dimension and their adventures trying to find their way back home.

Since graduating college, I've been trying to find a way to make art that makes me happy and that I can do on a consistent basis. I've really been wanting to write comics, but had been putting off telling any actual stories until I felt like my skills were good enough to handle it. I finally realized that if I put off writing until my skills were "good enough" I'd never get ANYTHING done, so I just figured I'd get started and hopefully learn how to get better along the way! I've been trying not to stress too much about how the actual images look and just focus on having fun telling the story.

Anyway, I'm planning on finishing this first volume up and selling it at Otakon in Baltimore this summer!

Into the Woods

So, my brother graduated last month! Yay! He wanted to go camping for his graduation party.

Sadly, when we got to the camp site, I realized my camera's battery was dead. I saw so many cool things I decided to try to paint them really fast (and really poorly) in photoshop as soon as I got home so I wouldn't forget them.

Camping the the dark is cool! I really liked the way the light of the fire contasted against the blinding light of the flashlight.

When I woke up in the morning bugs were crawling all over our tent. I knew I should have been grossed out, but I thought it was actually pretty interesting looking at their sillouettes. It was like some kind of sinister, beautiful stained glass window.

I went walking in the woods to look for firewood and found this really cool spot. All the trees around it had been uprooted and the sun was shining directly on the center. It was as if something really powerful had happened there. I was waiting to see fairies or something.

The warm embers looked beautiful underneath all the ashes.

Twilight is also cool! The sky seemed abnormally bright considering how dark everything else was.

Leaves are pretty!

This was our camping neighbor! I never saw him without his giant headphones. Or his beer.

Between the Covers

This cover never got used :(

But this one did!

Also, here are some bugs that I drew for the inside of "Grub Street"

Whale Wars!

I drew this back when "Whale Wars" first started. I'm so excited the next season is on... I love that show way too much!

Never Before Seen Comic!

I never got around to finishing this because I've been working on a secret comic project for the past few months. I'll show it to you when it's all done!

Work Babies

I drew caricatures of the kids in my preschool class for mother's day. It was fun!

Long Time

I know I have another blog, but for some reason I miss posting in this one... so what the heck!

Life's been strange after college. I'm still trying to figure things out. I know I love to draw and tell stories, but I'm not really sure what all of that means career-wise. I tried teaching preschool but that wasn't what I thought it would be, so now I'm back on the job hunt. If anyone hears of any cool sounding jobs... please let me know! I'm up for almost anything.

So anyway, here's a bunch of stuff I've neglected to post for the past few months! First are some random sketches from baseball games, coffee shops, and a really dumb class I had to take for my old job.
